The demand for affordable housing in the community is a difficult void to fill and with increased regulation and decreased funding, AMHA relies on the private industry to help fill those voids through the development and management of new properties. Fortunately for Akron, this void became a little smaller with the addition of Stoney Pointe Commons, a 68 unit apartment community specially designed with the needs of the chronically homeless and those suffering with debilitating mental health disorders.

In collaboration with Community Support Services, Tober Building Company and National Church Residences the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority awarded 68 project-based vouchers to Stoney Pointe Commons, located on Vernon Odom Boulevard, just west of the intersection with Romig Road. Tober Building Company served as the Design-Builder for the ground-up construction of the 68,000 square foot, permanent supportive housing development. 35 of the vouchers in the building are required to house individuals who are currently homeless and 8 of the vouchers reserved for Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH).

Community Support services will provide mental and physical health care as well as intensive case management onsite at the property. National Church Residences was selected to manage the day to day operations and maintenance of the property for Tober.

Each of the approximately 600 SF one-bedroom apartments feature a contemporary design to accommodate various needs. Stoney Pointe’s amenities include a 24-hour front desk staff, comprehensive social services provided by Community Support Services, computer lab, training kitchen, community pantry, on-site laundry, enclosed bike storage and a great room.
