Awake in the Lake

Summit Lake has a legacy of greatness:  once a vibrant entertainment center and an essential component of the vibrant rubber industry.  Summit Lake historically has defined industry and success in Akron.  As Akron rose, Summit Lake was a thriving community.  However, as often happens with large inner-city neighborhoods, we experienced a decline in the Summit Lake neighborhood.  This is why I believe it important to the health and economy of Akron and we commit to investing in the Summit Lake community.

Over the last month, AMHA has kicked off two substantial initiatives in Summit Lake.  First, AMHA started the Jobs Plus Initiative to develop locally based, job-driven approaches to increase earnings and advance employment outcomes through work readiness, employer linkages, job placement, educational advancement, technology skills, and financial literacy for residents of Summit Lake Apartments.  Second, AMHA and the City of Akron partnered for the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative to develop locally driven strategies that address neighborhood challenges through a comprehensive approach to neighborhood transformation. 
I hope that you all keep an eye on what is happening at Summit Lake; the next few years should be exciting.
