AMHA Awarded More Vouchers
The Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) has been awarded 37 Family Unification Program (FUP) Vouchers equaling $253,124 through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). FUP vouchers are intended for families who are unable to secure affordable housing for their children or dependents, and former foster youth at risk of homelessness.
In order to award these vouchers, AMHA will work closely with local public welfare agencies to identify former foster youth at risk of facing homelessness and families whose lack of adequate housing is the primary reason their children are in foster care.
AMHA was also awarded 12 HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Vouchers totaling $57,660. The HUD-VASH program combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance for homeless veteran families with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veteran Affairs at its medical centers and in the community.
The Cleveland Veterans Administration facility will refer all eligible HUD-VASH families to AMHA. These vouchers are critical tools in helping communities effectively end homelessness among veterans.
